When you ring to make an appointment, we will ask you questions such as:
Why you need the wig? Eg hair loss due to alopecia or some other means such as chemo or radiation treatment. If the wig is for chemo we recommend synthetic wigs. These look just as natural as the human hair wigs, are cheaper and should last the 6-12 months you will need the wig. Synthetic wigs are also lower maintenance.
What length? Eg above the collar, shoulder, bra length or longer. If for chemo, some ladies with longer hair will choose a shorter length, but keep in mind the wigs can be trimmed.
Straight, wavy or curly? Pretty self-explanatory.
Fringe or no fringe? If for chemo, some ladies that don't normally wear a fringe might consider getting a wispy fringe if they ae going to lose their eyebrows. This depends on which chemo you are having and how many treatments.
What colour? Each style generally comes in 30 different colours, of which there is often about 10 different variations of grey to choose from too. There is also the option of choosing a plain colour eg mid brown or having mid-brown with highlights and/or even a dark regrowth. If for chemo we usually recommend getting a highlighted colour as it helps lift you.
Alot of women will send a photo of themselves (with hair) if they want something similar to what they had before. You can click 'wigs' and 'more wigs' (which is just a small sampling of our rather big range) and make a note of some of the wig names and colours you like. If you normally have long hair and want to try short then make sure you let us know when making the appointment as we will only come with wigs fitting the description you have given us. Just so you know, you can try the wigs on with or without hair so don't wait for it to fall out if you're doing chemotherapy as its best to be pepared and get your wig beforehand.
Our wig collection caters for women of all ages from children to great great grandmas. So yes, we have age-appropriate styles, if that is what you are after. And, if you want to look younger, we have often achieved that too much to the delight of the friends and family at the appointment. When we arrive for the appointment, we are super-discreet and have no advertising on ourselves, or on our travel bag (which is the size of a bag you would take to the airport) that is full of wigs and headwear. We bring a large selection of wigs to the appointment. The same amount as you would find in a wig shop in your style.
The appointment generally lasts about 1.5-2 hours. We do the fitting at your dining table or kitchen bench. We bring mirrors. If you normally wear make up when you go out, then you may want to put some on for the appointment as it will give you a more accurate idea of how you will look when you wear the wig. We then start going through the wigs and trying them on you, explaining as we go the various features of each wig as well as the various features of the wig cap (what the fibre is sewn onto). Some ladies say it's kind of like playing dress ups and most end up really enjoying the experience.
At the appointment some women like to have a friend or family member there for a second opinion. It's optional and up to you.
If you find a wig that is the right style and colour, you can have it there and then, otherwise we will order it in which usually takes about a week, depending where you live. Your rep will let you know. We then go through how to put the wig on yourself, washing and wig care. We carry the relevant wig care products you'll need to get to maintain your wig.
We also carry a wonderful selection of headwear including bamboo sleep caps, softies, wraps, cotton elasticated scarves, sun hats and sun caps for when you are not wearing your wig. These are specialty headwear designed for ladies with hair loss. Prices for headwear start at $25.

As well as providing a friendly and compassionate service, ours is a discreet service, with no advertising on ourselves or our cars. Rest assured your neighbours won't know why we are there.
WIG PRICES
Wigs go up in price depending on the quality of the products used (to create a more realistic look and a more comfortable, more durable longer lasting wig), and how labor intensive the wig is to make. The better the quality of the hair (fibre), and the more features a wig has (eg a natural hair-line, part-line etc and/or hand-tied), the dearer it will be.
At the lower end of the market you have costume, mannequin and fashion wigs. Moving towards the higher end is where you will find your quality medical grade wigs. These wigs are designed for women with hair loss in mind. Wig prices for these medical grade wigs start from $300. We find most women get something in the $300-$600 range. It really depends on your hair style as to what features you may want to consider as to how much you might need to pay. But if you have a budget then we can accommodate that. We will explain all about these features at the appointment. I often have women saying they only want the top of the range wig because they think it will look more natural, but depending on their hairstyle, the cheapest might work just was well.
REBATES
If you are in a health fund and have extras cover, you may be able to claim some or all of the wig. You will need to speak with your fund direct. We are an Australian health fund approved wig provider. If you can claim for your wig through your health fund, they generally will require a letter from your doctor stating what the purpose of the wig is for eg chemo, and you take that letter with our receipt to your health fund for a rebate. Full payment for your wig is required before we can issue the receipt for your health fund.
